You Don't Have to Stay Inside

Brought to you by Feel better, Tylenol®

Whether your allergies are seasonal or year-round, it can sometimes seem like allergies stand in the way of enjoying outdoor activities. But if you follow these simple guidelines, you may be able to get out and about without triggering your symptoms.

Here are four strategies to enjoy the outdoors with allergies:

  • Plan ahead
  • Before you plan an outing, check weather forecasts and pollen counts. And if you can, try to stay indoors on hot, dry, windy days when pollen counts are highest.

  • Avoid mornings
  • Limit your outdoor activity between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., when pollen counts are highest.

  • Protect yourself
  • Wear gloves and possibly a mask for lawn and garden chores. Both can protect you from things like pollen, mold and dust.

  • Leave the allergens outside
  • If you’ve been outside for a long period of time, shower and change clothes right away when you go inside. Believe it or not, pollen can collect on your hair or skin. This will wash it away and prevent it from spreading around the house.
