Healthy eating is basically a matter of paying attention to portion size, sodium content and fat. Try choosing skim milk over whole, mustard instead of mayonnaise and whole-grain bread over white.

It’s also a matter of adjusting your thinking. For example, no food is inherently bad, at least when eaten in moderation. So eat full-fat cheese, but only a small portion chewed slowly to savor the flavor. Have a cheeseburger, but not with double meat and double cheese.

At Sam’s Club® you can always find healthy options, so you can feel good and stay healthy.

Here are some ways to start:

Fill up on fruits and vegetables. Aim for five to seven servings a day, the more colorful the better. Blueberries and strawberries are among the top foods recommended by dietitians; eat them on cereal or by themselves.

Water, water, everywhere. Drink plenty of water, even in winter. It flushes out your system and fills you up.

Practice portion control. Many restaurants serve portions that are two and three times the size of a normal serving. Before you start eating that plate of spaghetti, put half in a to-go container.

Meat your way to lean. Pick lean cuts of meat for much-needed protein and iron. You’ll get through the winter months strong and healthy. Sam’s Club® butchers suggest starting with 90% lean ground beef, ground turkey or boneless, skinless chicken breast.
