As the days get shorter, many people experience the winter blahs. Symptoms include lethargy, difficulty getting up in the morning, difficulty concentrating and a tendency to blame themselves for things that go wrong.
If such symptoms persist, see your doctor. But many such feelings can be overcome or prevented by taking a few steps.
Get some sun. We need vitamin D, which is most easily obtained through about 10 minutes of sunshine. Plus, we tend to feel better when the sun is shining.
Exercise. It’ll make you feel better, plus it reduces stress, which can worsen feelings of the blues. You’ll also be better able to keep your weight in check if you have a regular exercise routine.
Stay on a sleep schedule. You’ll have more energy during the day; if you’re energetic, you’re less likely to feel down.
Eat right. Think moderation. Pasta can be a source of healthy carbohydrates, but practice portion control. Also try whole-grain breads and cereals, plus fruits and vegetables.
